Rediscovering Creativity And A Digital Detox in Nature
A bit of a different location for a different type of blog today. We have been away to a beautiful log cabin in East Harling near Thetford Forest in Norfolk to have a bit of a work detox. I have been aware for a while that I been pretty much solidly on the internet every day for the past few years. This is with my job, reading interesting blogs and articles and seeing what people I follow are up to. Although I enjoy these things, recently I have felt as though I am always in 'on' mode and never fully able to switch off. Of course, there are always times when there is a need to work more, but trying to keep momentum up has felt a bit chaotic of late. Thinking about how over the past few years there has probably not been a single day I have been off the internet is a little scary, and one of my goals for this year has been to try to live in a more balanced way which means making sure to take some time out every now and then. So, we booked to stay in a lovely log cabin in Norfolk for 3 nights, and decided to not do anything internet related. We bought DVDs and sat and watched without scrolling on our phones, read the books we brought and I did some drawing of botanical illustrations which is something I enjoy but often at home in my usual routine feel I run out of time to do. I had almost forgotten what it was like not to be distracted and actually take a step back to get more inspiration rather than giving energy to things which are draining and not a priority. I feel that when living simply and calmly a lot more inspiration comes to you than when your mind is always on the go.
We were lucky to have the time to spend time in a perfect place to get some relaxation. Inside the cabin there were large glass French doors which were perfect to gaze out of and simply enjoy the relaxing rural views leading to the surrounding farmland. The lounge has a cosy log burner for cosying up in front of on chilly evenings. There were wonderful large comfy sofas, perfect for curling up and reading. When we arrived there, I sat sipping my coffee reading the guest book and we were far from the only ones who had truly enjoyed this calming location. This time of year, there were also plenty of bird songs to enjoy listening to with no nearby traffic noise to distract.
The setting was just off from working farmland and within a short distance to Thetford Forest for plenty of beautiful peaceful nature walks. We also had the coast approximately an hour away if you wanted to venture a little further out however, we stayed to the local rural walks. Perfect if you like to go on holiday with your dog as we do. I was inspired to just relax, eat nice food and do some drawing for simple enjoyment which you can take a peek at below. If I think I am not being productive enough I can feel guilty, but these few days away have been a reminder of the benefits when we take a break and just connect with the natural world, get some rest and have a mini reset.
